Glenbrook Square, Indiana’s second largest enclosed shopping mall, is home to more than 150 retailers and hosts millions of shoppers every year. The mall owner, General Growth Properties (GGP), recognizes the importance of energy conservation and its associated benefits. That’s why in 2012 GGP took action by implementing an HVAC and VFD upgrade.
A new 900 ton energy efficient chiller took the place of a 1,200 ton chiller, installed in 1966. In addition, multiple VFDs were installed, allowing tighter process control and reduced equipment maintenance. The new equipment will be connected to an energy management system and will help the mall improve energy efficiency and manage overall costs.
By decreasing its overall consumption and increasing its use of more energy efficient systems, Glenbrook Square received rebates amounting to $28,200.
“The efficiency program rebates received from Indiana Michigan Power made a significant impact. General Growth Properties was so pleased that additional HVAC and VFD upgrades will be made in 2013.”
